  Description : Found in Asia, Africa, the Americas, and southern Europe. They forage in shallow water or in drier habitats, feeding mainly on fish, frogs, small mammals, and occasionally small reptiles and insects. It has a slow flight, with its neck retracted. They hunt and live in both saltwater and freshwater marshes. It builds tree nests in colonies close to water. It begins to breed at 2–3 years of age by forming monogamous pairs each season.4-6 bluish-green eggs laid in a clutch. Both sexes share domestic duties.
