  Description : Distributed over the Indian subcontinent, as well as parts of Southeast Asia and West Asia. This large lizard is mainly terrestrial and young ones are arboreal. They have strong claws on their feet and powerful long tail so that they are good climbers. The tail is long and powerful. They have specialized bifurcated tongue, they are highly sensitive to smell and taste. It mainly hunts on the ground preying mainly on arthropods, vertebrates, birds, eggs and fish usually they hunt during the day.
